We received the worst service at breakfast had to wait an hour to place our order and then waited to receive it and then couldn’t get the bill when we were in a rush. Ultimately we complain to the manager and he gave us a complementary breakfast but it left a very bad taste in our mouth‘s about the whole experience of staying at the hotel. Very unfortunate Since we really did think it was a lovely property. Great location, very nice and friendly staff, one of the staff called "Reyes" was so kind and gave me a tour in the hotel while explaining the history of the building, I appreciate this a lot!

Mortgage Calculator with PMI and Taxes

house calculator

In essence, the lender helps the buyer pay the seller of a house, and the buyer agrees to repay the money borrowed over a period of time, usually 15 or 30 years in the U.S. A portion of the monthly payment is called the principal, which is the original amount borrowed. The other portion is the interest, which is the cost paid to the lender for using the money. There may be an escrow account involved to cover the cost of property taxes and insurance. The buyer cannot be considered the full owner of the mortgaged property until the last monthly payment is made.

Use Zillow’s home loan calculator to quickly estimate your total mortgage payment including principal and interest, plus estimates for PMI, property taxes, home insurance and HOA fees. Enter the price of a home and down payment amount to calculate your estimated mortgage payment with an itemized breakdown and schedule. Adjust the loan details to fit your scenario more accurately. If other fees are rolled into your monthly mortgage payment, such as annual property taxes or homeowners association dues, there may be some fluctuation over time. A mortgage loan term is the maximum length of time you have to repay the loan. Longer terms usually have higher rates but lower monthly payments.

house calculator

What type of mortgage is right for me?

Homeowner's insurance is based on the home price, and is expressed as an annual premium. The calculator divides that total by 12 months to adjust your monthly mortgage payment. Average annual premiums usually cost less than 1% of the home price and protect your liability as the property owner and insure against hazards, loss, etc. Bankrate.com is an independent, advertising-supported publisher and comparison service. We are compensated in exchange for placement of sponsored products and services, or by you clicking on certain links posted on our site.

What taxes are part of my monthly mortgage payment?

We source the latest weekly national average interest rate from Zillow, so you can accurately estimate and compare your monthly payment for a 30-year fixed, 15-year fixed, and 5/1 ARM. Your loan program can affect your interest rate and total monthly payments. Choose from 30-year fixed, 15-year fixed, and 5-year ARM loan scenarios in the calculator to see examples of how different loan terms mean different monthly payments.

A 5-year ARM, for instance, offers a fixed interest rate for 5 years and then adjusts each year for the remaining length of the loan. Typically the first fixed period offers a low rate, making it beneficial if you plan to refinance or move before the first rate adjustment. Lenders typically require you to purchase homeowners insurance when you have a mortgage. The coverage you’re required to purchase may vary by location. For example, if you live in a flood zone or a state that’s regularly impacted by hurricanes, you may be required to buy additional coverage that protects your home in the event of a flood. If you live near a forest area, additional hazard insurance may be required to protect against wildfires.

What is a mortgage interest rate and APR?

Over the length of the loan, though, the 15-year loan is a far better deal, considering the interest you pay — $514,715 in total. With the 30-year, you pay $646,624 total — over $100,000 more. Our loan is half the length, and so the value for n is 180. Each month we’ll pay $2,859.53, over 60% more than with the 30-year loan. When all’s said and done, for a 30-year loan at 3.5% interest, we’ll pay $1,796.18 each month. Under "Home price," enter the price (if you're buying) or the current value (if you're refinancing).

Can my monthly payment go up?

This formula can help you crunch the numbers to see how much house you can afford. Alternatively, you can use this mortgage calculator to help determine your budget. These are also the basic components of a mortgage calculator. Mortgage interest is the cost you pay your lender each year to borrow their money, expressed as a percentage rate. The calculator auto-populates the current average interest rate.

How to calculate mortgage payments

Most home loans require at least 3% of the price of the home as a down payment. Some loans, like VA loans and some USDA loans allow zero down. Although it's a myth that a 20% down payment is required to obtain a loan, keep in mind that the higher your down payment, the lower your monthly payment. A 20% down payment also allows you to avoid paying private mortgage insurance on your loan. You can use Zillow's down payment assistance page and questionnaire tool to surface assistance funds and programs you may qualify for.

For most borrowers, the total monthly payment sent to your mortgage lender includes other costs, such as homeowner's insurance and taxes. If you have an escrow account, you pay a set amount toward these additional expenses as part of your monthly mortgage payment, which also includes your principal and interest. Your mortgage lender typically holds the money in the escrow account until those insurance and tax bills are due, and then pays them on your behalf. If your loan requires other types of insurance like private mortgage insurance (PMI) or homeowner's association dues (HOA), these premiums may also be included in your total mortgage payment. A mortgage is a loan secured by property, usually real estate property. Lenders define it as the money borrowed to pay for real estate.

Homeowners in some developments and townhome or condominium communities pay monthly Homeowner's Association (HOA) fees to collectively pay for amenities, maintenance and some insurance. When you get a mortgage, the lender pays for the cost of the home upfront. In exchange, you agree to pay the lender back with interest, over a set period of time. Naturally, the lower your interest rate, the lower your monthly payment will be. To calculate how much house you can afford, we’ve made the assumption that with at least a 20% down payment, you might be best served with a conventional loan.

The scoring formula takes into account the type of card being reviewed (such as cash back, travel or balance transfer) and the card's rates, fees, rewards and other features. A fixed rate is when your interest rate remains the same for your entire loan term. An adjustable rate stays the same for a predetermined length of time and then resets to a new interest rate on scheduled intervals.

The hotel is different with a combination of old and modern style. Rooms here are an exercise in balance, with both modern and classic flair. Expect to see eye-catching -- yet restrained -- details like rear-lit sketches of plants, abundant nail-head accents, and vintage-inspired furniture. While most rooms eschew the overtly elegant style found in the hotel's common areas, a few suites are available with gilded ceilings and four-poster beds. Otherwise, beds are a mix of kings and queens with gold-embroidered pillowcases underneath room-width white leather headboards.

Icon Of The Seas: Worlds Biggest Cruise Ship To Launch In 2024

new cruise ship 2024

The first in a new series of LNG-powered vessels, the 4,300-guest vessel will become Princess’ largest ever ship while introducing several new features, such as a family activity zone and a multi-use geodesic dome. The cruise line has announced it's building the largest cruise ship ever — even bigger than its recently unveiled Wonder of the Seas, the current record-holder for world's largest cruise ship. The new Icon of the Seas will carry 7,600 passengers at maximum occupancy (or nearly 10,000 people when you account for the crew) when it first sets sail with guests Jan. 28, 2024.

The 6 Best New Cruise Ships for 2024

Under development for more than six years and the first of an all-new series of vessels for the line, the 4,000-passenger Sun Princess is about 21% bigger than the biggest ships currently in the Princess fleet. And yet, while it's 21% bigger, it's designed to hold just 17% more passengers. To whet your appetite for cruising in the year ahead, take a look at our list of nine new cruise ships arriving in 2024.

The best way to do that is to come out with new ships that push the envelope of what’s possible at sea. Every iteration takes what passengers love about a cruise line and makes it even better. Once the ship is completed, she will measure 236,860 gross registered tons and 1,188 feet in length, meaning that, though smaller than Icon of the Seas, she'll still be one of the largest ships in operation.

Queen Anne (May

The cruise industry is navigating into an exciting era with the launch of several impressive new vessels. 2024 is particularly significant as it marks the debut of some of the most advanced cruise ships ever constructed. From spring getaways to family summer holidays and autumn escapes to winter wanders. Escape to the most incredible destinations in the world on the best ships in the biz with big seasonal savings on 2024, 2025 and 2026 cruises. The ship will also offer MSC Cruises’ largest water park yet, with VR-enabled water slides. Plenty of family-friendly cruise ships have waterslides, but few have six — or even one that requires a multi-person raft.

The World's Largest Cruise Ship Is Coming in January—Here's What It's Like Inside

Also new for Cunard will be Aranya, an Indian eatery; Sir Samuel's, a high-end steakhouse; and Tramonto, which will serve Mediterranean dishes. The development of ships on the scale of Carnival Jubilee and its sisters has been a big deal for Carnival. Until recently, the line had resisted the trend among major brands to build even bigger vessels that offer a supersized megaresort-at-sea experience. Like Carnival Celebration, Carnival Jubilee measures 183,521 tons, putting it in a tie with the former ship for the position of biggest vessel ever to sail for Carnival (at 181,808 tons, sister ship Mardi Gras is slightly smaller). Carnival Celebration and Mardi Gras, notably, are a whopping 35% bigger than the next-biggest Carnival ships currently afloat, and they are bigger than all but a dozen other cruise vessels in the world. All three vessels — Icon of the Seas, Queen Anne and Sun Princess — are the three new cruise ships for 2024 that have us the most excited here at TPG.

At maximum capacity, Icon will be capable of hosting 7,600 passengers on its inaugural sail on January 28, 2024. Slightly bigger than its sister ships, Viking Vela will hold 998 passengers at double occupancy — 68 more than its siblings. But it'll still be less than a third the size of the giant ships operated by such well-known cruise brands as Royal Caribbean, MSC Cruises and Norwegian Cruise Line. In design and features, Utopia of the Seas will be nearly identical to Royal Caribbean's last new Oasis Class ship, Wonder of the Seas, which debuted in 2022. Like that vessel, it'll have a dedicated suite area with a private lounge, restaurant and sun deck — something not found on the four earlier Oasis Class ships. Royal Caribbean's second new ship of the year will be a giant, too, though not quite as big as Icon of the Seas.

But what’s impressive is not the size, but what you can do on a ship this large. After having its delivery postponed several times since 2021 due to problems at Brodosplit, the Janssonius is expected to enter service for Oceanwide Expeditions sometime in 2024. Once delivered, the expedition vessel is set to offer a series of exploration cruises in Antarctica and the Arctic.

What’s really exciting is that she is launching a brand new class for Princess Cruises. Icon of the Seas became the biggest ship in the world when she set sail on January 27, 2024, from her homeport of Miami. When it comes to views, among the best are from the brand’s first Sunset Corner Suites and Panoramic ... There will also be a three-story Ultimate Family Townhouse complete with its own white picket fence and mailbox.

Norovirus 2024: Highly Contagious Stomach Bug Is Spiking In US.

Norovirus outbreak sickens hundreds of cruise ship passengers, crew members

It sounds like a large number, but it amounts to just 0.02% (two one-hundredths of one percent) of cruisers throughout those 14 years, with the total number of cases decreasing from 4,507 in 2006 to 1,201 in 2019. Norovirus is the leading cause of outbreaks from contaminated food in the United States. Infected food workers are frequently the source of outbreaks in food-service settings, often by touching ready-to-eat foods, such as raw fruits and vegetables, with their bare hands before serving them.

CardMatch

Hand hygiene is key to prevent the spread of the highly contagious virus — but the way you clean your hands matters, experts note. It has to be with soap and water, because alcohol-based hand sanitizers are not effective against norovirus. The most common symptoms of norovirus are vomiting, nausea, diarrhea and abdominal pain, Dr. Albert Ko, infectious disease physician and professor of public health, epidemiology and medicine at Yale School of Public Health, tells TODAY.com.

Why are there so many cruise norovirus reports on the news?

Norovirus can be especially challenging to control on cruise ships because of the close living quarters, shared dining areas, and rapid turnover of passengers. When the ship docks, norovirus can be brought on board in contaminated food or water or by passengers who were infected while ashore. Repeated outbreaks on consecutive cruises may also result from infected crew or environmental contamination. This is because norovirus can persist on surfaces for days or weeks and is resistant to many common disinfectants. Norovirus spreads easily in close quarters, such as those found on cruise ships.

norovirus outbreak on cruise ship

It's easy to make norovirus case numbers sound alarming, but context matters. For example, 100 cases on a single ship might seem like a lot, but on a vessel like Oasis of the Seas, which carries more than 5,400 passengers, 100 cases are only about 2% of the onboard population. Infected passengers who don't wash their hands after coughing, sneezing or using the restroom are the reason those surfaces become contaminated in the first place.

How is norovirus spread?

Exposure to less than 100 norovirus particles can make someone sick, and infected people typically shed billions of particles, according to the CDC. It only takes a small number of virus particles for norovirus to spread, which is why norovirus causes so many explosive outbreaks, Ko previously told TODAY.com. In the vast majority of people, norovirus symptoms will last several days and resolve on their own. There is currently no vaccine against norovirus but there are steps you can take to prevent infection. Always make sure to wash your hands thoroughly, especially after using the bathroom or changing diapers; when eating, preparing, or handling food; and before giving yourself or someone else medicine. They ask passengers who feel ill during their cruises to report symptoms to the medical center and keep themselves isolated in their cabins.

Norovirus illnesses can be more severe and occasionally even deadly in patients in hospitals or long-term care facilities when compared with healthy people. Norovirus is highly contagious and spreads when you touch a contaminated surface and then put your fingers in or near your mouth, such as when eating without washing your hands. It's also frequently spread through contaminated food, sometimes earning it the nickname "food poisoning," even though there are many pathogens that can cause foodborne illnesses. You might also hear it generically called a stomach bug or the stomach flu despite the fact that noroviruses are not the same as flu viruses. Passengers who experience norovirus symptoms like vomiting and diarrhea should notify staff and follow recommended precautions, per the CDC. Specifically, the medical staff from each cruise ship must submit a report with the number of ill passengers within 24 to 36 hours of its arrival at a U.S. port from a foreign port, even when no cases of gastrointestinal illness are present.

Food, water, and surfaces contaminated with norovirus can also cause outbreaks. "Health officials track illness on cruise ships. So outbreaks are found and reported more quickly on a cruise ship than on land," reads the CDC's facts page. Norovirus is the most common of several viruses that cause severe gastrointestinal illness or acute gastroenteritis. Symptoms may include diarrhea and vomiting, as well as abdominal cramping, headaches, muscle aches and fever — an unpleasant experience any time but especially when you're on vacation. The number of outbreaks in the first six months of 2023 is higher than the yearly total during every year since 2012, when there were 16 outbreaks on cruise ships reported to the CDC.

Schools and Childcare Centers

If you'd like to check out the outbreak information, you can find a detailed list of ships that have had acute gastroenteritis outbreaks (many of which were caused by norovirus), listed by year, about halfway down the CDC's outbreak page. As part of the program, ships are required to adhere to stringent health and safety protocols that dictate everything from the cleaning of high-touch areas to how food is stored in freezers, refrigerators and galleys. On ships where outbreaks occur, the crew conducts a deep cleaning of the ship after passengers have disembarked and before the next sailing begins. In cases where outbreaks are particularly severe, subsequent sailings could be canceled to allow for more thorough sanitization.

Several weeks prior, a Celebrity Summit cruise ship reported an outbreak of norovirus that sickened more than 150 passengers and 25 crew members, per the CDC. Another popular cruise line, Royal Caribbean International, has reported four outbreaks since January. Food that may be contaminated with norovirus should be discarded immediately. Kitchen utensils, counters, and surfaces should be routinely cleaned and sanitized before preparing food to avoid foodborne illnesses. That means data for norovirus on cruise ships is more readily available than for other entities.

The CDC estimates only about 1% of all annual U.S. norovirus cases happen on cruise ships. The numbers are greatest in nursing homes, hospitals, schools and restaurants, which collectively account for about 91% of cases. You can use the NORS Dashboard to learn about outbreak reports of foodborne, waterborne, and enteric (gastrointestinal) diseases spread by person-to-person contact, environmental contamination, animal contact, and more. An excessive number of news reports exist for norovirus cases on ships, making it seem to the unsuspecting public that cruise vessels are dirty or you're likely to get sick if you sail.

“I think our travel frenzy after COVID is partially fueling this continued spread (of norovirus),” says Ostrosky. Be sure to carefully wash fruits and vegetables before preparing and eating them. Oysters and shellfish need to be thoroughly cooked before they are ready for consumption. Noroviruses are relatively resistant to heat and can survive temperatures as high as 145 degrees Fahrenheit. "When you are sick with norovirus, you can shed billions of virus particles in your vomit and poop. It only takes a few of these particles to make someone sick," the CDC explains.

Cruise lays out its plan for 'how' it will make robotaxis a reality

In the previous section, we discussed the degree of customization needed in the software ecosystem to foster engineering velocity. As we scale our commercialization efforts, the volume of AVs that are manufactured and the operating fleet size necessitates a low-cost, highly reliable and safe platform. The table below describes a classification of AI hardware solutions in the market today. A principal challenge is that the AV must react to a highly dynamic environment under tight real-time latency requirements that must account for the worst-case scenarios to ensure safety and reliability. The major driver of dynamism is the scene complexity, e.g. number of tracked objects. To illustrate, the figure above shows the AV workload e2e latency distribution for a single scenario -- clearly there's a lot of variance in latency.

Traditionally, AI naturally fits into the perception subsystem which is heavily based on sensor understanding. At Cruise, there is an active shift to introduce AI into the rest of the subsystems (like prediction, tracking, planning) as we find that AI-based algorithms are much more resilient to a diversity of scenarios than traditional heuristic algorithms. The challenge is to execute this complex AV software stack under tight real-time latency budgets. In this article, we will follow one thread of complexity - the compute thread. Specifically, we explore how to deploy an increasingly complex AV software stack on a shrinking AV hardware budget without compromising engineering agility. We demonstrate that a possible approach to addressing this complexity is to focus on a vertically-integrated HW/SW platform that must be designed and optimized synchronously.

In this article, we described the complexity of the AV software stack. We discussed what makes it so unique compared to other AI problems, what makes the AV workload so challenging to deploy and the need for high engineering velocity so the AV can continuously adapt and root out long-tail issues while scaling to new ODDs. Further, scaling AV fleets not only in volume in a single city, but multiple fleets across multiple cities requires a reduction in cost of the platform as volume scales.

We make the case that vertical integration of our stack allows us to sidestep the complexity of making every layer in the stack fully general and allows us to focus only on the parts important to AV deployment. Cruise has a strong history in Phoenix and it is home to a large number of Cruise employees. It’s a city that supports AV and transportation innovation, and Phoenix leaders strive to ensure the metro area is an incubator for advanced technology. We plan to expand this effort to other select cities as we continue to engage with officials and community leaders. To ensure optimal world creation, Cruise takes into account things like lighting at 24 different unique times of day and weather conditions, even going as far as to systematically measure light from a range of street lamps in San Francisco.

For these reasons, we have invested in a vertically integrated HW / SW stack. Such vertical integration is crucial to meeting the demands on system-level cost, safety and reliability, which are all critical to scaling. The simplicity and portability of the AV SW deployment ecosystem allows for reuse of the ML toolchain (which is largely abstracted from ML engineers) across our custom SoCs as well as off-the-shelf hardware.

At the core of the runtime is the inference server, which owns all models and manages inference requests from different nodes in the AV stack. These ML models sometimes employ specialized architectures that are specific to the AV problem. For example, take sparse convolutions - these are very useful in processing 3D point clouds generated by lidar and radar.

During GM’s investor day in October, Cruise CEO Dan Ammann outlined the company’s plan to invest heavily into the compute power of the Origin in order to decrease costs by 90% over the next four generations so it can scale profitably. At the time, Ammann mentioned Cruise’s intention to manufacture custom silicon in-house to cut costs, but didn’t admit outright using that silicon to build a chip — but TechCrunch had its theories. On Thursday, Rajat Basu, chief engineer for the Origin program, validated those theories. Test scenarios also include simulating the way other road users react to the AV.

The company said it hopes to put Cruise Origins on Dubai’s streets this year. Dubai’s RTA confirmed in April that Cruise has several autonomous Chevy Bolts — at least five can be seen in one video — collecting data and testing in the Jumeirah 1 area, a residential area on the coast. Data collection involves manually driving a robotaxi around to grab information on the local driving environment and climate. We believe AVs will save lives and significantly reduce the number and severity of accidents on America’s and Arizona’s roads every year. AVs will also improve lives - including creating  convenient and safe transportation options for the elderly and those with disabilities. As we begin this journey, we look forward to partnering with local communities to jointly achieve our shared mission of making transportation safer for all.

A ride-hailing service will then become available first to employees and then to customers who have signed up for the service. The service area and hours of operation usually start on a limited basis, often at night, and slowly expand. Looking to the next chapter, our goal is to resume driverless operations. As we continue working to rebuild trust and determine the city where we will scale driverless, we also remain focused on continuing to improve our performance and overall safety approach. To that end, Cruise is resuming manual driving to create maps and gather road information in select cities, starting in Phoenix. This work is done using human-driven vehicles without autonomous systems engaged, and is a critical step for validating our self-driving systems as we work towards returning to our driverless mission.

In late July, Cruise announced plans to expand its robotaxi service to Nashville. Cruise confirmed that it’s testing robotaxis in a small city in Japan in partnership with Honda. Honda has stated a goal to launch a mobility-as-a-service in Japan using Origins by mid-decade. Cruise began mapping Dubai in July 2022 in preparation for a planned launch in 2023.

This ensures that the AV doesn’t regress by testing against scenarios it has already seen. Cruise cars tell their wheels and other controls how to move along the selected path and react to changes in it. The result is a ride that’s safe, efficient, and natural-looking to other drivers. Learn the basics of how a Cruise car navigates city streets safely and efficiently. Cruise ridehail services are not available at this time, but you can join the waitlist to be one of the first. We’re working to bring new transportation options that work for you and your community.

The Cruise vehicle then moved "rightward before braking aggressively, but still made contact with the pedestrian," the company said. "The AV detected a collision, bringing the vehicle to a stop; then attempted to pull over to avoid causing further road safety issues, pulling the individual forward approximately 20 feet." The DMV action came three weeks after a Cruise vehicle hit and dragged a pedestrian in San Francisco. A woman entered a crosswalk at nighttime and was hit by two cars, the second of which was the Cruise vehicle.

After plotting a 2024 reunion with their Summer of ’99 cruise, Creed has announced a 40-city North American tour, which will mark their first time hitting the road together in over a decade. On July 19 of last year, Creed officially announced their return after sparking rumors that a comeback was indeed happening. Fans were surprised to learn that the band's first show back would be aboard their own festival cruise and, after it quickly sold out, a Summer of '99 and Beyond cruise was put on the books. Aboard their own Summer of '99 festival cruise, Creed have played their first reunion show, marking their first time onstage together in 12 years. It's official — Creed have reunited after teasing their comeback earlier this month.

Sirius XM DJ Eddie Trunk will co-host both cruises alongside the trio from AXS TV's The Power Hour show — Matt Pinfield, Caity Babs and Josh Bernstein. The first Summer of '99 cruise will be held from April in 2024, departing from Miami, Florida for Nassau, Bahamas aboard the Norwegian Pearl cruise ship. The best-selling band will perform two shows next April as the headliners of a four-night cruise.
